How It Works
Compulsory Programme – all Year 12 students take part in a structured Personal Development programme, ensuring every student gains valuable experiences. These fall into the following three strands:
-
Community
Leadership, mentoring and volunteering opportunities that allow students to support others and make a difference.
-
Creativity
Opportunities to explore and express new ideas, through arts, extended projects and enrichment clubs.
-
Achievement
Academic enrichment, competitions and workshops that stretch and challenge.
In the summer term, students complete a tailored programme that prepares them for their next step, whether that’s UCAS, an apprenticeship application or employment. They are guided to reflect on the skills they’ve gained through enrichment, ensuring they can articulate these in applications and interviews.
Opportunities On Offer
Our enrichment programme is broad and varied, with something to suit every interest:
- Community – mentoring younger students, joining the Student Leadership Team, supporting college events, planning a Christmas party for local residents and reading with younger pupils
- Creativity – supporting clubs in the main school, performing in drama productions, or completing an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
- Achievement – delivering subject revision sessions, competing in the Biology Olympiad, taking part in debate club, joining the Oxbridge preparation group, or attending alumni and careers workshops
- Wellbeing – yoga sessions and use of the college’s sports facilities at set times
Why It Matters
Participation in enrichment at Parrs Wood helps students to:
- Build a portfolio of experiences to strengthen UCAS personal statements, apprenticeship and job applications
- Develop leadership, resilience and independence – qualities valued by universities and employers
- Discover new talents and interests beyond the classroom
- Contribute to the wider school and local community, developing empathy and responsibility
A Launchpad For The Future
By the end of their time in Sixth Form, students at Parrs Wood will have not only strong qualifications, but also a rich set of skills, experiences and values. This combination ensures that they leave us as confident, capable young adults, ready to succeed in whichever path they choose after Year 13.
