Ancient History

Ancient History is the study of Ancient Rome from original sources: what these ancient civilisations had to say for themselves.

Applied Sciences

Over the two-year course you will develop fundamental scientific principles and applied knowledge, laboratory techniques and problem solving.

Art and Design

During the course you will build knowledge and understanding in traditional media such as painting, drawing, printmaking, graphics, mixed media and sculpture, as well as new media like photography, animation, film and video.

Biologoy

Lessons cover practical skills, research projects, class discussions, investigation work, and examination technique practice. Biology, like all sciences, is a practical subject, so you'll carry out practical activities throughout the course as well.

BTEC Business at Parrs Wood Sixth Form helps you understand and enhance your knowledge of the business world.

Chemistry

A-level chemistry consists of 3 topics. These are physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry.

Computer Science

Computing at Parrs Wood brings innovation, creativity and enjoyment to study while offering you the skills to be at the forefront of whichever path you choose.

Core Maths

Mathematics is a versatile qualification that is well respected by employers. Careers for successful mathematicians are often well paid as well as interesting and rewarding.

Criminology

Studying Criminology will give you lots of options for your career, especially if you are interested in working with criminals or within the judicial system.

Drama and Theatre

The course will be delivered using a combination of practical group work, class discussion and presentations and theatre visits. Students will be required to complete additional research, complete written assignments and rehearse practical performance pieces out of class time.

Economics

Economics touches every aspect of people’s daily lives; you’ll look at the fundamental forces that affect our lives, such as employment, poverty, international trade and prices.

English Language

A Level Language is a wide-reaching linear A Level course, which prepares you well for careers in journalism, media, publishing, government, international relations, advertising, law and a host of other sectors.

English Literature

A Level English Literature at Parrs Wood is a rigorous, linear two year qualification following the Edexcel English Literature curriculum.

Esports

This qualification includes a breadth of transferable skills that enable you to experience different areas of Esports to aid your progression to employment. These include the development of teamwork, communication, leadership skills, decision making, reading comprehension skills and cyber skills.

Further Maths

Further Mathematics consists of Core Pure which explores topics like vectors and algebra that have been touched on at GCSE but takes these much further. Geography

Fieldwork is an integral part of a geography A-level. Students are required to complete at least four full days of fieldwork

Government and Politics

Knowledge of British Government and Politics is essential in career areas such as politics, law and journalism.

History

History is still one of the most widely valued and respected subjects for both university entrance and for progression in the professional career market.

ICT

BTEC ICT offers skills to equip you for whichever chosen profession or further education route you choose. Virtually every chosen profession in the marketplace makes use of ICT to some degree, BTEC ICT will put you one step ahead.

Languages

You will enjoy a variety of approaches to the language you are studying using course books, newspapers, magazines, videos, DVDs, CDs, and ICT. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of trips and visits linked to the country of the language you study.

Law

An excellent introduction for students who want to read law at university or start a legal apprenticeship.

Mathematics

A level Mathematics is split into three sections; Pure, Mechanics and Statistics.

Media Studies

The course is particularly relevant to students interested in careers in the Media and those looking to study Cultural Studies, Sociology, English, Communications and TV and Film Studies in Higher Education.

Studying psychology will open up lots of options, including further study at university, careers in clinical psychology, educational psychology, health psychology, forensic psychology, sport psychology, counselling, as well as teaching and research.

Religious Studies

Be prepared to have your own views challenged and to conduct and present your own research into matters that interest you!

Sociology

You’ll learn about different sociological theories and how they believe society works. You will also look in detail at certain areas of society and investigate various issues.

Sport

This qualification combines well with a large number of subjects and supports entry to higher education.

During the school day our onsite car park is out of bounds to general visitors, please use the Parrs Wood Complex car park adjacent to the school, for all disabled badge holder parking please follow the signs as you drive into the car park, there are parking bays located at the front of the school and also at the rear of our sports centre.
